DESCRIPTIONS FOR BOARD POSITIONS

President

  • The President conducts the general affairs and day-to-day activities of Kirkland American Little League (KALL)
  • The president presides at league meetings, and assumes full responsibility for the operation of the league, and
  • is responsible for Baseball & Softball League Functions and Coordination.
  • The president receives all mail, supplies and other communications from Little League International Headquarters
  • If necessary, the president may manage, coach or umpire, provided he/she does not serve on the protest committee, nor serve as a tournament team manager or coach
  • The president should be the most informed officer of the league. The president must know the regulations under which Little League International operates and in authorizing the annual application for charter, binds all members of the league to faithfully observe the regulations
  • The president is the officer with whom Little League International maintains contact.
  • The president also represents the league in District 9 organization, special meetings, waivers and other yearly required information requested
  •  Works hand in hand with the City of Kirkland and local municipalities with regards to league issues and progress
  • Insures that KALL adheres to the structure defined by Little League Baseball
  • Oversees the activities of the Board of Directors and as the chief administrator, the president selects and appoints managers, coaches, umpires and committees

Secretary

  • Documents general league information and KALL activities
  • Document meeting minutes in Board of Directors meetings
  • If this position is not filled, the President may include another BoD member to handle issues from time to time when Executive Committee meetings are held.

VP of Operations

  • Responsible for overall operations, including equipment and facilities management, and scheduling
  • Works with other officers and committee members, is ex-officio member of all committees, and carries out such duties and assignments as may be delegated by the president.
  • May manage, coach or umpire, provided they do not serve on the protest committee.
  • In case of a prolonged absence by the President, can perform the duties of the President

VP of Baseball

  • Responsible for Baseball League Functions and Coordination
  • Coordinates the Player Evaluations
  • Conducts the Player Draft activities
  • Review applications and assist the President in determining player residency and age eligibility
  • Ensures that teams are aware of District 9 sponsored tournaments
  • Fields Manager/Coaches concerns and brings them to the board’s attention
  • See other duties of the Vice President of Baseball on page 5 of our constitution. 

VP of Softball

  • Responsible for Softball League Functions and Coordination
  • Coordinates the Player Evaluations
  • Conducts the Player Draft activities
  • Review applications and assist the President in determining player residency and age eligibility
  • Ensures that teams are aware of District 9 sponsored tournaments
  • See other duties of the Vice President of Softball's on page 5 of our constitution. 

Treasurer

  • Maintains the financial accounts of KALL
  • Acts as the Chief Financial Officer
  • Writes checks and makes deposits to the KALL account as required
  • Creates a proposed yearly budget along with the League President

Umpire in Chief

  • Head of the Umpiring staff
  • Collecting background checks on all volunteer umpires and submitting to President.
  • Conduct training sessions for league umpires.
  • Certify and manage league umpires for game coverage throughout the season.
  • Manage the various post-season KALL tournaments.
  • Coordinates Youth Umpire programs and training

Safety Officer

  • Responsible for KALL member safety
  • Coordinates Safety Training and Clinics
  • Coordinates Volunteer Safety compliance and background verification
  • Follows up on accidents and provides guidance to avoid future accidents
  • See other duties of the Safety Officer on page 6 of our constitution. 

Director of Upper Level of Baseball

  • Coordinates the Majors, Coast, and Minors levels of baseball
  • Involved in Player Evaluations
  • Develops Manager and Coaches candidate list
  • Coordinates the Managers/Coaches meeting
  • Help coordinate and conduct Manager/Coaches interviews (Majors and Coast)
  • Gathers Managers and Coaches for tryouts and draft
  • Coordinates the Manager and Coaches Evaluations
  • Communicates to the teams via the Managers
  • Coordinates the City Championships at the end of year with Kirkland National Little League
  • Fields Manager/Coaches concerns and brings them to the board’s attention
  • Provides backup to Player Agents when Player Agents are not available 

Director of Lower Level of Baseball

  • Coordinates the AAA and lower levels of baseball and RapidBaseball
  • Forms the teams based on parent coach and buddy requests, school, and registration date
  • Develops Manager and Coaches candidate list
  • Coordinates the Managers/Coaches meeting
  • Helps coordinate and conduct Manager/Coaches interviews (applies more to the upper levels)
  • Coordinates the Manager and Coaches Evaluations
  • Communicates to the teams via the Managers
  • Fields Manager/Coaches concerns and brings them to the board’s attention

Director of Upper Level of Softball

  • Coordinates the uppermost levels of softball
  • Involved in Player Evaluations
  • Develops Manager and Coaches candidate list
  • Coordinates the Managers/Coaches meeting
  • Help coordinate and conduct Manager/Coaches interviews
  • Gathers Managers and Coaches for tryouts and draft
  • Coordinates the Manager and Coaches Evaluations
  • Communicates to the teams via the Managers
  • Coordinates the City Championships at the end of year
  • Fields Manager/Coaches concerns and brings them to the board’s attention

Director of Lower Level of Softball

  • Coordinates the lowermost levels of softball and RapidSoftball
  • Develops Manager and Coaches candidate list
  • Coordinates the Managers/Coaches meeting
  • Help coordinate and conduct Manager/Coaches interviews
  • Coordinates the Manager and Coaches Evaluations
  • Communicates to the teams via the Managers
  • Fields Manager/Coaches concerns and brings them to the board’s attention

Player Agents

  • Represents KALL players, when disputes arise
  • Handles the coordination of players in the Player Pool (for upper levels) and maintains the player pool list for that level
  • Guidelines for the Player Pool system is available 
  • Assists the registrar with determination of appropriate league level of play
  • Helps run the evaluation for their respective league level
  • Coordinates the draft with the Director (upper levels)
  • Runs the replacement pool (Majors and Coast)
  • Reviews All-Star Player eligibility and handles the balloting
  • Monitors and assists in data entry in registration 
  • Fields questions from players and parents and brings them to the Presidents or boards attention
  • Player Agent Roles:

Registrar

  • Coordinates registration
  • Champions KALL to the public to increase membership levels
  • Contacts the LWSD to have the KALL fliers approved
  • Coordinates the flier distribution to the area's elementary schools
  • Coordinates with BoD members and member-at-large in placing registration banners and signage

Equipment Manager

  • Handles all equipment and manages the equipment room
  • Works with the League President on getting bids for jerseys and caps each season
  • Establishes gear hand-out dates with managers & coaches, maintains records and assures gear is returned each season from teams
  • Ensures that supplies (chalk, turface, hand tools, umpire gear, safety kits, etc) are accounted for and properly stocked at Taylor, Crestwoods & Everest

Facilities Manager

  • Coordinates the maintenance of the fields including Taylor Fields
  • Liaison between City of Kirkland and KALL regarding field prep and coordination
  • Ensures that the scoreboards and PA systems are operational
  • Ensures that the field storage areas are stocked with chalk, dig out tools, rakes, surface, templates, etc.
  • Ensures the score booths are in order with scoring sheets, scorebook binders, and pens

Sponsorship / Advertising

  • Responsible for sponsors and advertising
  • Responsible for setting up managers & coaches with proper tracking techniques and volunteer opportunities for corporate matching programs
  • Responsible for tracking yearly sponsors contracts, artwork, signage and website presence on league website
  • Responsible for making sure advertising signage and banners are in good condition, and installed and removed each season at the proper times

Fundraising

  • Responsible for coordinating with Sponsorship regarding fundraising programs
  • Scheduling and planning any fundraising events
  • Working with Treasurer to ensure events are aligned with league financial goals and compliant with 501 (c)3 status including reconciliation and reporting needs.

Members At Large Positions

Scheduling Coordinator

  • Develops the overall game schedule, makes sure managers input scores after each game, reschedules rainouts, inputs data into registration software (MYL) and maintains the schedule for regular season, ToC tournaments & City Championship
  • Integrates schedule across platforms including SportsConnect and GameChanger

Social Media Director

  • Create and lead social media plans that align with the league goals.
  • Manage content across platforms including website, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Recruit coordinators from Upper and Lower Level Baseball and Softball programs
